Hi, I'm Gia and this is my journey..
I'm an elementary school teacher born in Atlanta, GA and have lived in its surroundings all my life. I've always eaten fairly well (except for the occasional hot wings and fish fry's, but that's a Georgia thing) and tried my best to take care my body, especially my hair. I have been natural since 2011, after noticing how bad relaxers and color impacted my hair. Since then, I've tried every natural hairstyle from blow outs, twist, braids, wash and go's and up do's. I've always prided myself on using the best natural products to take care of my coils. I would have never prepared myself for what came in the future, which was my diagnosis of Lichen Planopilaris.
Lichen Planopilaris is a type of scarring alopecia when a skin disease called Lichen Planus affects the skin where there is hair. It is very uncomfortable and slowly leads to permanent hair loss. To be transparent, this blog was initially created for therapy because I had (and still have) a hard time coping with the endless scalp pain, itchiness, and hair loss. It became more frustrating, because I had a hard time finding a lot resources on this disease that was told in the point of view of someone living through it. But, as I prayed to God about my purpose in life, it hit me. I can't be going through this for no reason. This blog is now focused on helping women (or even men) who suffer from Lichen Planopilaris, Alopecia, or any other sudden hair loss and want to heal naturally.
Studies say that there is no real proven treatment, but there's medication you can try through trial and error. I don't believe in the idea of "never" and "no". However, I do believe there is a way to beat this. I hope to inspire someone by providing resources on methods on what's successful for me and meet other people who have positive stories. What's different about this blog is that I am going through this with you. Let's beat this together!! Lichen Planopilaris is a type of scarring alopecia, but I called part of this blog "un·scarred" because I believe it can be "undone" and our hair will be "undamaged". So, welcome to un·scarred naturally which is my life with Lichen Planopilaris, but it won't last forever.
Fearfully and Wonderfully,
Gia
